Hey there! My name’s Sam and I have a hot mess of interests varying from writing, nutrition, fitness, languages, and travel, to articles on neuroscience and human rights. However, out of all of my interests health has always reigned king. My fitness journey began around the age sixteen when I woke up one morning and couldn’t button my size 18 jeans. I danced. I wiggled. I laid down and sucked it in. They wouldn’t button.
I had been the butt of numerous jokes growing up, the last pick of every gym class, and branded forever-awkward. My weight issues blossomed from a series of events beginning with my diagnosis of leukemia at 18 mos old. The chemotherapy obliterated my immune system, so it was very rare for me to be active or outside during those crucial first few years. I never found myself wanting to play sports or exercise; in my opinion reading was all that mattered. I ended up becoming involved with the music program at my school and became a “band geek.” (I was all about the clarinet and euphonium.) It is no wonder my weight sky-rocketed to 180lbs and a size 18 would no longer fit me.
I decided it was time to make some changes for my own health and well-being. I researched online different facts on nutrition, and I was astonished at how high of a calorie diet my family and I consumed daily. We’d eat high carb muffins from Dunkin’ Donuts, slabs of steak with sauce, corn and no other vegetable. It was insane!
So, I slowly started trying to change and seven years and several failed diets later, I am here. I am now a size 4-6 and normally around 150lbs. My newest goal is to become an NPC Bikini Model Competitor and thought it could be fun to document my journey every day to inspire others to change their lifestyle as well. I love sharing healthy recipes, challenging workouts, and my results on different “fad” diet to show people what works and what does not work. I also love reviewing any health products, supplements, and fitness fashion items in my blog too 🙂
